Melaka River Walk

Melaka River used to be muddy and black in color many years back while it was a focal trading point during the Melaka Sultanate days with trading boats sailing upstream to do trade wares. Melaka then was not a tourist destination but a "business centre" between the traders from the East and West which not surprisingly became the most sought after trading post by the Portuguese, Dutch and British.
Many years fast forward, the remnants of the glory days still remained intact where time seem to stand still with the living historical buildings and finds. Other then the modernisation and development, the nostalgic feeling remains in every visitors mind.

Today, the Melaka State Government had spent much on beautifying the Melaka River including the creation of Melaka River Walk which starts from the Jonker Street (opposite the Stadhuys) and ends at the Hang Tuah bridge (opposite the site of Eye On Melaka).

The walk not short of picturesque view of old shophouses along the banks which had been given a slight "touch-up" and great recreation for visitors who likes to walk. Those who wish alternatives for the up river view are able to take a boat cruise which promises the same feeling of old Melaka.

The whole Melaka River experience will be further enhanced with the development of a RM24.3million marina at the river mouth. The 4ha marina will be completed in 2009 and can accomodate 40 yachts is expected to revive Melaka as a port-of-call after a lapse of time.

During the night, it is a sight to behold and today, Melaka River is never the same!

The following pictures was sent to me via email and not knowing who the owner is. The pictures are well taken and truly reflecting what the Melaka River has been transformed into during the evenings. Fairy land?
