31 August 2008 marks the 51st Independence Day for Malaysia and a time to rejoice for a multi race and culture country which had stood the test of times. Many events had been arranged in the run-up to the big day where Kuala Lumpur city will host the national level celebrations this year.
The events to look for on this occasion would be the Merdeka Eve celebrations to be held on 30 August 2008 night at 3 locations namely Merdeka Square, Bukit Bintang and KLCC with the usual fireworks displays and concerts.
The main event takes place on the following day with the National Day Parade at Merdeka Square where participation from the Government and private sectors in march past in the presence of the dignitaries including DYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Yang DiPertuan Agung and Prime Minister of Malaysia.

The national petroleum company of Malaysia, Petronas had never failed to contribute meaningful ads each year contributing to the National Day celebrations and this year is no different with this. (read the subtitles in English).
Each state would have their own celebrations including the march past parade and Melaka, where independence of Malaysia was first declared by Tunku Abdul Rahman would have a nostalgic feeling and significant given the recent award from UNESCO as a World Heritage City.
With 31st August falling on a Sunday, expected some Malaysians would be taking advantage of the long weekend and head to holiday spots across the country. No better then reserving accommodation at the following hotels directly.
