Malaysia Water Festival

The Malaysia Water Festival starts on April 4, 2008 with Langkawi being the chosen venue to kick off the month long festival which would also be hosted in Labuan from April 19 to 26, 2008. The Pantai Cenang, Langkawi event had the dubious distinction of creating a record with 115 activities in a single event being held during the 3 day event.

The water festival was meant to promote Malaysia as a venue for water-based sports and recreational activities to the world. The many natural settings of the many lakes, beaches, sea and etc. provides the right climate and environment for world class water-based activities to be hosted in Malaysia.

The Labuan segment with six main activities - the Labuan tug-of-war, Labuan-Brunei International Extreme Kayak Challenge, Labuan International Game Fishing Tournament, Round-Island Kayak Challenge, Labuan International Boat Race and the Labuan Cross Channel Swimming Challenge will surely be an attraction.

More than 30 teams and 200 individuals from Britain, the United States, Australia, China, Singapore and New Zealand had shown interest in taking part in the festival.

Though the venue for 2009 Malaysia Water Festival have not been decided yet, it's worth keeping a date for the event and get ready for more splashing fun!
