Terengganu Airport Upgrades

Kuala Terengganu, the gateway to enchanting Lake Kenyir and the beautiful islands of Perhentian and Redang would be able to receive more tourists travelling by air with the latest RM123mil upgrading of the Sultan Mahmud Airport.

The airport would be able to handle larger aircraft like A330 with extension of the runway to 2800m and includes a taxiway to improve aircraft manoeuvring. The new building which is 20000 square meter comes with a 2 tier operations for arrival and departure that also includes 2 aerobridges.

The new upgraded Kuala Terengganu airport would also serve as a gateway to development programmes under the East CoastEconomic Region(ECER) launched by the Government. This includes Kuala Terengganu City Centre (KTCC) which will transform this town into a high impact urban development to signify its role as tourism and investment gateway.

Nearby, the new RM300mil Gong Badak sports complex is taking shape and will be the location for the 12th Sukma Games hosted by the state in May 2008. Construction re-started in 2004. It is now 91% completed and expected to complete in March. Once completed, the 267 hectare complex will house a main stadium, a closed stadium, training and hockey fields, bowling alley with 48 lanes, eight squash courts, State Sports Council office, exhibition hall, kiosks, stalls and an athletics facilities for track and field events following international specifications.

Further down towards the Kuala Terengganu city, is Pulau Duyong, once viewed as a scenic fishing village and world famed boat maker which is now the venue for annual Monsoon Cup.
